KOTA KINABALU: The media will not be allowed to get copies of witness statements tendered in the Election Court hearing the Kimanis election petition against Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.

Election Court judge Datuk Lee Heng Cheong made an interim gag order on the media, following an application by Anifah's lawyer Tengku Fuad Ahmad to disallow the media from reporting based on petitioner's witness statements.

Fuad had on Wednesday morning applied to have the court issue a directive to disallow media reports on the trial based on the petitioner's witness statements. Fuad said it would also prevent the risk of an unjust trial due to possible pressure for a prosecution if everything were to be published in the media.
