Eventually, DC tried to course-correct with the Rebirth event, leading to what is now known as the Rebirth era. It was during this time that the DC Universe became a lot lighter and brighter, since the New 52 was often criticized as being overly dark and miserable.
Some of the greatest events in DC history have also been born from its absurd continuity, such as the iconic Crisis on Infinite Earths by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, an entire story with the sole purpose of cleaning up DC's multiverse and continuity and making a single Earth with a single history.
