A high court hearing to decide the fate of amendments to Gauteng's Gambling Regulations with effect from April 1 2019 has been postponed.
Originally enrolled for hearing on Tuesday April 9 2019, Phumelela told shareholders the answering affidavit of the MEC and the Gauteng Gambling Board was only delivered a day before this, resulting in the need to postpone the court application “by agreement between the parties”. In January, a member of Gauteng’s executive council published proposed changes to the province’s gambling regulations, which included it depriving Phumelela of the 3% betting tax gain it derives from punters’ winnings on bookmaker bets.
