A 53-year-old Broome man previously jailed for the sexual assault of a teenage boy in Perth is facing new child abuse charges.
Police allege the man was trying to meet a 12-year-old boy for sex and that "significant" abuse material was found on his phone. Mandatory reporting to police was a condition of his release and the court heard that officers searched his phone on May 8 after he neglected his obligations. But Magistrate Deen Potter refused bail and said the fact the man was a heavy haulage truck driver meant he was a flight risk.
The ABC made a submission stating that reporting the man's name was in the public interest and should not be suppressed.
