The Calgary family doctor had been previously charged with sexual assault, with one charge stayed, one withdrawn and one pleaded down.Dr. Ali Ayyaz Chatha has been charged with sexual assault involving an incident in 2023. Court records show Chatha has previously been charged with three other counts of sexual assault starting in 2017 but all charges were either withdrawn or stayed.
Court records show Chatha was charged with sexual assault on three previous occasions involving three different women but has never been convicted of that offence. "I emphasise he is presumed innocent of this charge and will diligently defend against this charge in court," said Ruttan.Chatha was first accused of sexually assaulting a woman on July 4, 2017, but that charge was stayed in November 2019.A third sexual assault charge was laid against Chatha for an incident on Jan. 9, 2020.
