Judge Aileen Cannon on Tuesday delayed the May 20, 2024, trial date for the documents case involving former President Donald Trump indefinitely, signaling it would not take place before the November 2024 presidential election, according to a filing.The filing set a number of pre-trial deadlines and hearings in the case regarding pending discovery and disclosure matters and adjudicate pre-trial motions, as well as deal with procedures on classified information.
Given those outstanding issues, Cannon said it would be “imprudent” to schedule a new date given a number of issues pending. She wrote in the The Court also determines that finalization of a trial date at this juncture — before resolution of the myriad and interconnected pre-trial and CIPA issues remaining and forthcoming — would be imprudent and inconsistent with the Court’s duty to fully and fairly consider the various pending pre-trial motions before the Court, critical CIPA issues, and additional pretrial and trial preparations necessary to present this case to a jury.
