The murder trial of prominent artist Melissa Beowulf and two of her sons has been told secret recordings of their conversations by police support their innocence.
While prosecutors have put forward a financial motive, noting Mrs Panin had made an appointment to change her will on the morning of her death, defence lawyer Ken Archer said the two grandsons actually stood to gain under the new arrangement. Mr Archer said the jury should not automatically accept Mrs Panin intended to change her will, but that if she did she would have moved to split Melissa Beowulf's share and add her grandchildren and other family members into the will."If it was going to be changed, then these two boys were going to benefit big time.Mr Archer said during the lengthy police investigation the family's phones and home were bugged by police.
But he said even when the group believed they were alone, they spoke of the crime as though they were innocent. He pointed to Thorsten Beowulf's complaints about"ridiculous accusations" after being interviewed by police, along with other conversations between the trio."They are talking about how crazy this whole thing is.Timeline before death questionedMr Archer also tried to poke holes
