Despite a massive wave of anger directed at vegans yesterday, some see the protests in a different light and it could spell the start of our new future.

That’s the view of plant-based food experts who see yesterday’s headline-grabbing vegan antics as a monumental tipping point that could reshape Australia’s future.

Some vegans see yesterday’s protests as a tipping point for their cause. Picture: AAP Image/Ellen Smith“But there’s going to be a certain percentage of people who are willing to look beyond the headlines, start asking questions and find out why people are doing this — it’s a wake-up call.”“Is it a perfect action? No,” Ms Fox said. “But when we look at all social justice movements in the past, none of those have come about as a result of nice, polite activism.

She said that, according to Google Trends data, Australians searched for vegan-related terms than any other nation last year and a Roy Morgan poll found 2.1 million of Australian are vegetarian and meat-free. Katrina Fox says it’s time for pollies, farmers and animal rights groups to sit around the table. Picture: SuppliedIt also comes as the International Agency for Research on Cancer classified processed meat as a Group 1 carcinogenic, placing it alongside asbestos and tobacco.

Ms Fox says all of these points resonate with everyday Australians, but that’s not always reflected by politicians. “This is a chance to end the ‘us’ versus ‘them’ between animal activists and the animal agriculture industry,” she said.

'Some' must mean 1 out of 10,000 people now. Even just talking about this crap is making me hungry for a big fat juicy steak !!!

Ha! You think?

Who wrote this crap plantsfeelpaintoo

All it did was highlight that plants have feelings too!

I’m vegan and like many others, don’t agree with the protests. It’s infuriating that a few disrupters are seen as representing all vegans. Call them animal activists, extremists, etc. Choose your words more carefully when writing articles, not ‘vegans’ as a whole.

How fucking good is meat

Let's just have a simple vote. Should we be allowed to eat animals or vegans? Let them decide.

This story is...

Bullshit. It’s like saying a shooting by a madman signals the start of alt-right as normal.

Over my dead body

i dont think so just makes people think theyre huge 20 yr old pests not abiding by peaceful protest regulations

the question is leaving the lemmings out who is actually financing and sponsoring and what hidden agenda REALLY.

Nothing in this world will ever stop me eating meat.

Nope, we were born to be carnivores

wrong

What’s wrong with a good Rib eye. Get these idiots off our streets!

Yeah right. 😳

Did they cry over that wasted egg? Nah, they cheered it on. Cumb dunts.

I just ordered a big KFC feed for the family, suck it up vegans :-)

Q: is seafood safe?

Um....according to who? It’s only pushed people further away if anything

Bullshit

How do these people get time off work to protest. Maybe they should try to contribute to society needs instead of telling us what to do we don’t go around telling vegans they should eat meat.

Yes, a new future where they are locked up for violation of trespass laws, fined heavily for flagrantly thumbing their nose at the law, publicly criticised by politicians for trying to enforce their will on a free thinking/willed society. Yes, can’t wait for that new future.

The more you force your way of life onto me, the less I am going to listen to you.

Left wing media you mean

I am going to enjoy a bloody big feed of loin chops tonight, snags and again tomorrow and the day after that and possibly all of next week.

BS....

🥩from my cold dead hands!😡

I think the vegans would be recoiling at this article, in fact it’s probably prompted them to start up again and that’s really not sustainable. I’m sure they have jobs, even if they don’t eat meat

Yep, that's exactly how I'm seeing it... 🙄

Im going to eat extra meat tonight to offset this headline.

Where was egg boy when you really needed him?

What’s that noise vegans ? It’s your saviour, it’s a big red bus but not any old bus it’s the Bill Bus he will take you to your next protest in style don’t mind the excessive pollution

All that protest did was make me want more meat. The tandoori chicken that's cooking in my kitchen right now smells delicious. Thanks guys.

Lol 😂

I wonder how much this vegan thing is a reaction to halal slaughter news?

This is brilliant news, hopefully more people can begin to see the inhumane treatment of animals and move to veganism.

We should kill all livestock to make way for our new vegan farms

🙄 go away

Pass
