Research has suggested this air, known as ‘bleed air’, can become contaminated with engine oils and hydraulic fluids, leading to illness among pilots and cabin crew through repeated exposure. His family say his symptoms led him to self-medicate with sedatives and ultimately contributed to his untimely death.
