Parliament's $14 million security flop: Executives gone, legal costs spiral | ErykBagshaw

Credit:The firm sub-contracted to run the build, Victorian-based blast-proof specialist Steelvision, was put into liquidation in March after it encountered cash flow challenges. The business partners of the company’s owner, David Gooley, made allegations of a "thousand-dollar-a-day" drug habit, loans from Russian friends, and links to a purported Uber-style app for escorts, "boober".

Paul Cooper, who is in charge of Parliament's building and security division, retired on Friday. The heads of its security branch and its capital works program are also on personal leave. Ben Hughes, a 26-year-old employee from Britain, had to personally pay up to $8000 for nuts, bolts and other materials to secure the doors at Parliament House.
