A man has appeared in court charged in connection with an attack on an elderly woman at a nursing home in the midlands on Monday night.

Keaney is charged with Section 3 assault causing harm to an 85-year-old woman at Sonas Nursing Home on Ballymahon Road, Cloghanboy in Athlone on Monday evening, April 29.Solicitor Mark Cooney said there is no application for bail at this time and requested the accused be remanded in custody for one week.

Judge Owens also directed the accused be referred for a psychiatric assessment and report following a request from Mr Cooney.
