A Queensland man has been found guilty of murdering his elderly mother-in-law by stabbing her with a hunting knife, leaving 15 wounds.

What's next?

The court heard after the murder, Cecil told a family friend to tell his ex-partner to "stop playing f---ing games" and shortly after called a business partner and said he "smoked a bitch". Defence lawyer Laura Reece told the court Cecil bought the knife earlier that day intending to scare his ex-partner but did not intend to kill Mrs Duffy.A radiant, adored grandmother

"As we close a very dark chapter in our collective journey, we shine a light on the life of a remarkable mother, an adored grandmother and a cherished friend," Mr Duffy said."She was the kind of person who not only nurtured her own family but extended her kindness to friends and even to those she barely knew.""She was the silent strength behind every triumph, the soft landing in times of turmoil and the celebratory cheer in every joyous moment," he said.
