She said Tuesday that the podcast is “owned” by Truth and Courage, which has not responded to emailed requests for comment. The FEC has six commissioners who are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, with no more than three belonging to the same political party. That structure is intended to make the agency as nonpartisan as possible, and official actions require support from at least four commissioners.
