A man has faced court for the first time charged with murdering his elderly mother, as neighbours expressed shock over the woman’s death.
Andre Lafayette Drane, 54, appeared in Fremantle Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with murdering 78-year-old Joan Mary Drane at a Yangebup property between Saturday and Monday.He was remanded in custody to face Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on May 29.Neighbours have expressed shock over Ms Drane’s death, with some leaving flowers at the scene.WA Premier Roger Cook told reporters it was an “incredibly traumatic event”.
“The police have taken someone into custody and I understand that person has been charged, and we’ll allow the courts to now process that particular charge.”
