One suspect dead, four officers injured in Charlotte shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A scary shooting scene in an east Charlotte neighborhood is now over with a lengthy police investigation getting underway.

Around 1 p.m., multiple law enforcement officers serving on a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force were met with"active gunfire" when they arrived at the home on Galway Drive, the "They were engaged by active gunfire from a subject," the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.

Numerous roadways throughout the area were partially closed while authorities worked to clear a path for ambulances transporting the injured officers to the hospital. Among those roads are Interstate 77 northbound at I-277 and Independence Blvd. inbound.
