39-year-old John Torney has faced court in Shepparton on a series of charges following the death of 49-year-old Emma Bates in Cobram on Tuesday.The accused was remanded in custody and the matter will return to court at a later date.
John Torney, 39, from Cobram, was later arrested by police who said they believed the two knew each other.Mr Torney appeared before the Shepparton Magistrates' Court on Friday charged with 13 offences including intentionally causing injury and unlawful assault.The prosecution told the court that, as well as the assault charges, Mr Torney was charged with contravening the Family Violence Act.
