Drake performs onstage during "Lil Baby & Friends Birthday Celebration Concert" at State Farm Arena on December 9, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia. The estate of the late Tupac Shakur is threatening to sue the rapper Drake over a recent diss track the Canadian star made against Kendrick Lamar that features an AI-generated version of Shakur’s voice.
“Taylor Made” was released on Friday, and is the latest salvo in the ongoing battle between Drake and Lamar. The war of words began with the release of the songby Future and Metro Boomin, on which Lamar guested and said that he was a better artist than Drake and J Cole.and followed that up with “Taylor Made Freestyle.” In that song, Drake uses an AI version of Shakur’s voice to shame Lamar for not answering back to “Push Ups.” The song also features an AI version of Snoop Dogg as well.
In the cease-and-desist letter, Tupac’s estate said that the use of his voice clearly violated his publicity rights – the legal power to control how your image or likeness is used by others.
