Mark Newcombe will appear before Wirral Adult Remand Court later today

A suspect has been charged as part of an ongoing police investigation into thefts and a robbery at a Tesco Express store.

Mark Newcombe, 33, was arrested yesterday, Wednesday, April 24 and has now been charged in connection with three offences which allegedly took place earlier this week at Tesco Express on Bowness Avenue, St Helens. Newcombe, of Kendal Drive, St Helens has been charged with the following offences: Theft on Monday, April 22; robbery on Tuesday, April 23 and theft on Tuesday, April 23.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "In each offence, large quantities of food or drinks were reportedly stolen."
