The prime minister says the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission to be set up will be independent and can take any action within its scope to ensure justice.

KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya will not interfere in any complaint received by the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission which is to be set up, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.

He was responding to calls by many quarters for the speedy setting up of the IPCMC, following the Malaysian Human Rights Commission’s finding on the enforced disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh and Perlis Hope founder Amri Che Mat. Last September, the government upgraded the current Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission to take on the powers of the IPCMC in hopes that it would enhance its role and allow it to investigate complaints more holistically.

On whether he had received a report from Suhakam following its inquiry into two missing persons, Mahathir said he had not received it, but had heard of it. Suhakam has held Bukit Aman’s Special Branch responsible for the disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh and activist Amri Che Mat in 2017 and 2016 respectively.

Govt will not interfere in court decision to allow live telecast of Najib trialKUALA LUMPUR: The government will not interfere with any decision by the court, regarding a live telecast of former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s corruption trial, says Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Hanipa Maidin. Allowing live telecast of Najib trial will devalue the whole process and demean our judiciary. It won’t be too far away before we have picnics at Dataran Merdeka watching public executions again. Yeeha!! Reporting from the media is enough. Is this a Parliament session? With the thugs out there, won't the witnesses be in danger of assault, threats and coercion? Can the police guarantee protection for all involved? 'What if he slinks off to the toilet again? “ Don’t broadcast it. You’ll get a lot of Wannabes Lawyers discussing on the trial, making all sorts of comments. Let the court do its job.
