SC reverses Comelec decision on Mamba's case

THE Supreme Court has reversed the decision of the Commission on Elections to dismiss the December 2022 disqualification petition filed against Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba.In a decision issued on April 16 but made public only on Monday, the Supreme Court en banc said the Comelec gravely abused its discretion in dismissing the petition for disqualification filed by Ma. Zarah Rose de Guzman-Lara against Mamba.It also remanded the case to the Comelec en banc for proper disposition of the petition.

In its decision penned by Associate Justice Jhosep Lopez, the Supreme Court ruled that the Comelec en banc committed grave abuse of discretion in dismissing the petition for disqualification against Mamba and that the petition for disqualification was filed on time.
