Two women who have worked in the adult entertainment industry, porn actor and director Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, are at the center of this case . Daniels, real name Stephanie Clifford, alleges that Trump's former fixer Michael Cohen paid her a sum of $130,000 in October 2016 in exchange for her not taking claims that she had an affair with Trump nearly 10 years earlier public.

Pecker, who is known to be a close, personal friend of Trump, will be the first witness to take the stand Monday, the New York TimesSunday afternoon. According to a person with knowledge of the Manhattan District Attorney's office strategy, prosecutors will seek for Pecker to recount conversations about the hush money payments made to both Daniels and McDougal for the jury.

The first-ever trial of a former American president is unfolding during this year's race for the White House, meaning the presumptive Republican nominee will spend his days in court confronted by salacious and unflattering testimony about his personal life while simultaneously campaigning to reclaim the office he held for four years.
