The gun was recovered when the boy, now 12, was out exploring the creek with his friend last year.

A young boy playing in a Mission creek during spring break last year came across a rusted handgun alleged to have been used in an attempted murder a decade earlier, B.C. Supreme Court heard Wednesday.

Bacon is alleged to have ordered a Dec. 31, 2008 hit on former associate Dennis Karbovanec, who survived with minor injuries. His dad sat nearby him in courtroom 20 at the Vancouver Law Courts as Youth 1 recalled seeing the gun and stepping on a log, then a rock to get closer to it. The dad used two sticks to pick the firearm up again and place it on a stump slightly up the creek embankment, Youth 1 testified.

And he identified the tree where he and his friend locked up their bikes after riding down the pathway to the creek.
