The move is the latest step in a controversy that pit the religious liberty concerns of death row inmates against security concerns of prisons. The justices agreed to stay Patrick Henry Murphy's execution, but weeks earlier, had denied a similar request from an inmate in Alabama.
Supreme Court justices feuding openly over death penaltyMurphy's initial request had been denied by Texas because officials said for security reasons only prison employees were allowed into the chamber, and the prison only employed Christian and Muslim advisers. Read MoreLawyers for Murphy challenged the policy arguing that it violated Murphy's religious liberty rights. The Supreme Court stepped in and put the execution on hold.
Good.
Good! they don’t deserve to be saved.
Most going to hell ..no biggie
Religious right to engage in polygamy is not protected by 1st amendment. The religious right to let a child die or just refuse medical treatment because parents don’t believe in medicine is not protected by 1st amendment. As long it is the same rule for everyone
This is why we have a separation of church and state. If you have one religious sect you have to have all.
Tucker Carlson Beats CNN's Entire Prime Time Line Up Combined.
I read the Texas prison's justification 4denying the Buddhist adviser2 accompany the prisoner in the execution chamber is because he was not an employee of the prison. They have Christian & Muslim advisors on the payroll, just add a Buddhist. Old, fear-based thinking! Stubborn!👎
LOL, Texas. You showed them Yankees!
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. 1st amendment does not say everyone has to be Christian 1st amendment does not say Buddhist not allowed
Separation of church and state Pretty simple
You hear that, Catholic Church You no longer have to stop at raping the kids, now you can finish 'em off, since you're not allowed in death chambers anymore!!
Why they ain’t special wtf
PardesSeleh They probably shouldn’t have murdered anyone
Well as Democratic Presidential candidate, Elizabeth Warren, says ..'It's a simple concept: if you break the law, you face the punishment.'
Did their Victims get last rights !!
I wonder if the victims of these murders got the option of having a minister, chaplain, or spiritual advisor when they were being killed? These killers should suffer the same fate and circumstances as their victims.
Petty and sad
'The Texas Department of Criminal Justice will bar chaplains, ministers and spiritual advisers from execution chambers in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling last week' So they can tickle them to death 'cause in Texas it's a laughing matter!
So rabbis are still good to go-but psychics are out?
