The future of the Giteau Law may be of little consequence for the new Australian coach.

New Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt has repeatedly said it’s his preference to pick Wallabies from Australia, not overseas.

There are layers to this debate, and it can’t be forgotten that Rugby Australia and New Zealand Rugby have committed to each other not to go down the South African route on overseas selection as they try to establish Super Rugby Pacific. None of the above quartet are indispensable, although Skelton would have the strongest claims for inclusion. Koroibete has been a gun for the Wallabies for years, but he will be 32 in July and unlikely to make the next Rugby World Cup. At some point, the Wallabies have to make the call to move on in a position where there are other options.

Meanwhile, the continued repatriation of players continues at the Western Force, with hookers Brendan Paenga-Amosa and Nic Dolly returning to Australia, and Leicester centre Guy Porter also linked. Harry Potter, of course, has already made that move.
