Ohio lawmakers reintroduced a law that would require police to screen victims of domestic violence to assess what the risk level is that they could be killed by their partners.
This is the third time lawmakers have attempted to put this law into motion. The legislation is named after Aisha Fraser, an Ohio teacher who was killed by her ex-husband in 2018. Her husband, former Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Lance Mason, is serving a life sentence for her death. Far too many individuals continue to be abused and live in fear," Carruthers said. "We need to get this over the finished line and we need to do it this GA."The law would require officers who handle complaints of domestic violence to complete an assessment, including intervention techniques and an evidence-based lethality screening, to determine the level of risk the victim has to domestic violence.
