The DVLA has issued a warning to drivers planning to travel abroad this summer, following a major change in permit law that came into effect at the start of April

The DVLA has issued a crucial warning to drivers following a major rule change two weeks ago. Motorists intending on driving abroad this summer have been urged by the DVLA to familiarise themselves with the revamped regulations post a significant shift in permit law at the start of April.

Now, required documents can be obtained from PayPoint stores as stated in a post by the DVLA, which read: "Travelling abroad this summer and planning to drive? Don't forget, how you get an international driving permit has changed! Since April 1, 2024, IDPs are exclusively available from participating PayPoint stores across the UK."

A spokesperson from the Swansea Motor Group said: "The recent changes announced by the DVLA are more than procedural; they are about ensuring that drivers have easy access to the necessary permits for safe and legal driving abroad. While the move to PayPoint outlets for IDP distribution is a significant change, it is also a reminder of the importance of staying informed about driving regulations, both domestically and internationally.

The UK government's website provides a comprehensive list of where IDPs are necessary, reports the Mirror. PayPoint has offered advice on the matter, noting on its website: "IDPs support a British or Northern Irish licence in countries where photographic proof of ID is needed, or where your licence alone may not be enough. There are 3 types of IDPs, and the right one for you depends on the country or countries you wish to drive in."
