Julian Assange,Andrew Wilkie,Wikileaks

Independent politician Andrew Wilkie has given a thumbs down to United States government assurances Julian Assange would receive a fair trial if extradited from the United Kingdom.

'No assurance at all': MP Andrew Wilkie says US promises for Assange to receive a fair trial if extradited are an 'obvious fantasy'

UK’s High Court ruled in March Mr Assange would not be extradited without assurance of a fair trial from Washington. “The United States Government’s assurance that Julian Assange would have all the protections of a US citizen in a US court is obviously a fantasy,” Mr Wilkie said in a statement. Julian Assange supporters protest on April 14, 2024 in London, England. The Wikileaks founder has been held in Belmarsh high-security prison for five years.
