Richard Cohen, shown in November 2016, resigned March 22 as president of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has named an interim leader who says the watchdog organization is looking"to build a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace." The organization announced Tuesday that Karen Baynes-Dunning would serve as interim president. Baynes-Dunning, a former judge, has served on the SPLC board since 2017.The move follows upheaval at the organization best-known for monitoring extremist groups.
The SPLC last month announced it had dismissed its founder and prominent civil rights attorney Morris Dees over unspecified conduct. Longtime President Richard Cohen also announced he was stepping down.Baynes-Dunning says the SPLC will remain a leader at tackling discrimination, combating hate and extremism, and promoting anti-bias in public schools.A digest of essential news, insight and analysis from L.A. Times editors.
SPLC needs to be put down. DOJ should investigate. We all know that they served a good purpose, but as they became more focused on a political bent against anything leaning conservative (more than 1/2 of the country), they became the hate group.
But you are showing a pic of an old white dude that used to be the president. Why not show the new president who is female and who the article is referring to? Is it that hard? Are you that lazy? Jesus. No wonder journalist are becoming unemployed.
Will they be adding themselves to their list of hate groups?
Define equitable. Are the workers going to share the risk too? The fairest and diverse happens when righttowork laws are in place.
Stop calling it a 'watchdog organization', they are clearly a HATE GROUP. They should not be able to avoid this name.
