A former Shetland primary school teacher who sexually abused six boys more than a decade ago has been jailed for two-and-a-half years. Stephen Tait, 41, targeted his victims between August 2009 and July 2010. Sheriff Ian Wallace told Tait it was 'ongoing, planned behaviour'. He added: 'This offending was made more serious as it was committed by you as a teacher against young children who were in your care. It was a serious breach of trust.
Offending like yours impacts on all those who work in that profession; all children who attend school; and all parents who send their children to school. 'I am satisfied that a prison sentence is the only appropriate method of dealing with this offending.' The court heard Tait had previously been convicted of similar offences, which occurred after his Shetland crimes.
