President Biden has gained ground on Donald Trump in a head-to-head matchup, but more people say the country was heading in the right direction under the former president than under Biden. That’s according to a new survey of registered voters from the New York Times and Siena College. In the poll, Biden trails Trump by just one percentage point, 46 percent to 45 percent, well within the survey’s margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
Voters expressed more favorable views of Trump and his time in office compared with Biden. About 43 percent of people said they had a favorable opinion of Trump, compared to 40 percent who said the same of Biden. When asked to recall the one thing they remembered most about Trump’s time as president, by far the top answer was his behavior, leadership and personal characteristics.
