The daughter of Vicha Ratanapakdee shares her personal journey in seeking justice for her father's death and the progress made in prosecuting criminals.

In 2021, my beloved father, Vicha Ratanapakdee, was killed. The video footage of the incident sparked a movement calling for supporting and uplifting Asian American voices and concerns across the nation and here at home in San Francisco. With encouragement, support and respect from many new organizations, I transferred my anger and outrage to join in on the important cause that I firmly believe in — justice for victims and their families. I am Vicha’s daughter.

This is personal and sacred to me. My father was a Buddhist who taught me to embrace, respect and do good to make our shared environment a better place. Since his death, we successfully recalled a former district attorney. Thanks to Mayor London Breed, who appointed Brooke Jenkins in his place, the District Attorney's Office is now prosecuting criminals and has a functional relationship with The City’s hard-working police force. This journey of civic engagement has not been easy for me and my family
