Senator Royce West, D-Dallas, who was a strong opponent, has stated that “we’re throwing away the baby with the bathwater,” arguing that officials should fix what’s not working instead of eliminating DEI programs altogether. DEI offices had offered a variety of activities for campuses, including hiring and recruitment of underrepresented groups, events and programming to celebrate cultural diversity and mentorship to bridge the gap among those pursuing STEM fields, for example.
