Federal Court upholds ruling clearing lawyer Cecil Abraham of misconduct

29 March 2019

A five-man bench led by Chief Justice Tan Sri Richard Malanjum unanimously dismissed the Bar Council's appeal. “It had not been shown to us that there was a failure by the Disciplinary Board in acting fairly and judicially in carrying out its duty,” he said, adding that the appeal did not have merit. However, the judgment was pronounced today by a four-member bench pursuant to Section 78 of the Courts of Judicature Act as Justice Balia had retired.

The hearing of the complaint against Abraham by the Disciplinary Committee commenced on Feb 27, 2014 and ended on February 7, 2015.

Special court will deal with Agong, not ICC: lawyerHuman rights advocate Edmund Bon dismisses concerns Rome Statute will affect the position of Malay rulers. If you are not the mass murderer responsible for the Wang Kelian mass murder or the MH370 mass murder, why should you be worried about the International Criminal Court? Unless if you say the rome statute obeys the Agong and puts Agong on top, then this is pretty much the same with ICERD. Attempts to take a certain amount of judicial and authority from the hands of malaysian judiciary system. I support Rome Statute. It's right to sign. Gov did the right thing and YDPA have no objection.
