MFRD got the call around 3:30 of a report of smoke in the area. They would soon find the source in the 7000 block of Anclote Court. Upon arrival smoke and flames were visible.“We were coming down Hillcrest and we saw the smoke and I told my wife who was with me -- I said there’s a house fire. I recognize house fires easily -- in the neighborhood... I said the smoke is coming from our neighborhood,” said Andrews.
As multiple crews worked to get the fire under control -- there was grave concern the homeowner might be inside. “The question was -- was there anybody in the house??? -- Finally, we got a hold of the owner and he said -- no I’m at work -- that was a big relief for everybody. Lee: It could have been worse? -- Could have been a lot worse -- because it was a lot of smoke -- a lot of smoke,” said Andrews.
Meanwhile, as firefighters worked to put out hot spots -- we’re told two of three dogs were rescued -- a third was still unaccounted for.“Their response was exceptionally fast! I’ll give kudos to the Mobile Fire Department -- they work hard and they know exactly what they’re doing. The chief that was in charge had it all planned out -- how he was going to attack the fire,” explained Andrews.
