Ron DeSantis on Wednesday signed legislation allowing police to remove squatters from a property at the request of a homeowner., HB 621, allows a homeowner to request police assistance in removing an unauthorized occupant.

Today in the state of Florida we say very simply ‘what passes muster in New York and California is not passing muster here.’ You are not going to be able to commandeer somebody’s property and expect to get away with it,” Gov. DeSantisThough Florida has not seen such cases as states like New York, the governor noted state laws did not explicitly rule out squatter’s rights until now.
