AUSTIN, Texas — After avoiding impeachment in September 2023, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will no longer go to trial in April 2024 after his attorneys reached an agreement with prosecutors in the 9-year-old securities fraud case against him.
whether Paxton’s failed efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election based on bogus claims of fraud amounted to professional misconduct. Hilton argues that the cost to taxpayers could exceed the agreed-upon settlement amount if the lawsuit were to continue. Hilton also clarifies that Paxton is not personally responsible for paying the settlement because the lawsuit is against the Attorney General's Office and not Paxton himself.
The Texas House's Committee on General Investigating sends Paxton's office a letter stating that there is a House investigation into Paxton asking for public money to settle with the whistleblowers and instructing Paxton's office to preserve records.from his personal account calling for House Speaker Dade Phelan to resign at the end of the current legislative session.

Invited witnesses, all lawyers and investigators respectively, say ‘Matter A’ in the investigation refers to the Office of the Attorney General, specifically"I don't know. This is unprecedented for what they're doing.
