A controversial trial of a ‘low traffic neighbourhood’ scheme in south Manchester will not continue, the council has confirmed. The ‘Parsonage Road safer streets’ project in Withington will not be made permanent after a six-month trial over the winter, Manchester City Council has said. However, some elements of the scheme will stay in place — namely planters which block cars but allow pedestrians and cyclists through at the junctions of Parsonage Road/Wilmslow Road and Burlington Road/Heaton Road. However, although many of the planters will go, two will remain. The council says it’s taken the decision after listening to ‘extensive feedback’, but has promised Withington won’t go back to how it was before the trial started.
