On Tuesday, the ID and Hawks officials conducted a five-hour long search and seizure operation at her home in Bruma, Johannesburg, which led to speculation of her imminent arrest on corruption charges. Mapisa-Nqakula has further claimed that the state has “no case” against her and that she is"innocent of the charges sought to be levelled against me".
“It's impossible to tell how flimsy a case may be without being presented with the evidence, so we'll have to wait on that one.”Questions have also been raised on the legality of Mapisa-Nqakula’s decision to go on special leave with immediate effect amid calls from opposition parties for her to step down.
