Human Rights Day: Economic and education equity remain a pipe dream, 64 years after Sharpeville

lays a wreath at the Sharpeville Memorial site in honour of the fallen victims who embarked in protest marches around the country against pass laws.As the country celebrates Human Rights Day, civil society groups and unions have called on South Africans to continue honouring the day to commemorate the 69 people who lost their lives in the Sharpeville massacre more than six decades ago.

Collen Mashawana of the Collen Mashawana Foundation reflected on Human Rights Day, urging everyone to remember the Sharpeville massacre of 21 March 1960 and unite to advance human rights in South Africa."Together, we can uplift underprivileged communities, promote the values of ubuntu and ensure access to basic needs. Join hands with like-minded individuals to create a nation where dignity, equality and freedom are a reality for all.
