Former Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr., the alleged mastermind in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, has been arrested by authorities in Timor-Leste, the Department of Justice confirmed on Thursday night. The arrest came weeks after the first death anniversary of the late governor and the other victims in the March 4, 2023 attack at his residence in Pamplona town.According to the DOJ, Teves was arrested in Dili East Timor at 4 p.m. while playing golf.
“The capture of Teves only proves that through concerted efforts and determination, terrorism can be thwarted and peace preserved,” Remulla said. He also urged Teves to face his trial without setting any conditions.Teves was last spotted in Timor-Leste in September 2023 after a chance encounter with a former senator. He also sought asylum in the country but was denied.
