“Even if a child were to be returned to the UK after they were verified to be a minor in Rwanda, the impact would be devastating for their physical and mental wellbeing and would likely leave an imprint on them for the rest of their lives.The pair added: “As former child refugees ourselves, we are speaking out together, knowing how the welcome you receive in a new country can chart out the very future you will go on to enjoy.

On Monday, Home Office Minister Michael Tomlinson told MPs the Government could not accept the amendment as it was important that the Rwanda scheme includes “decisive action” to “deter adults from claiming to be children”.
