Ricky Wilkinson told the court he sold the drugs to pay off other drug dealers in the area who demanded he pay them 'a tax' for dealing in the same neighbourhood.

A man has been sentenced to more than two-and-a-half years jail after selling about 265 grams of methamphetamines to undercover police officers in Queanbeyan.

The court heard he sold the drugs to pay other dealers who were angry he was selling in their neighbourhood.He said he'd initially only sold the drugs to support his own habit.But Wilkinson told the court things changed when he got a knock at the door.He said the men told him he owed ten "grand" a week, and demanded and extra $35,000, which he didn't have.Wilkinson said he was pleased when the undercover police began buying from him, because he felt he'd be able to pay up.
