For the second straight year, the Supreme Court has an opportunity to establish limits on partisan gerrymandering

— or go the other direction and send mapmakers an anything-goes message ahead of the 2020 census.

In North Carolina, Republicans explicitly sought to ensure the GOP would control 10 of the state’s 13 House districts. In Maryland, Democrats openly targeted a long-time Republican congressman, altering the lines of his district to defeat him and give Democrats a 7-1 advantage in the state., the Supreme Court declined an earlier chance to strike down Maryland’s congressional map or dictate firm guidelines about how far is too far when it comes to partisan gerrymandering.

“There are many plausible ways that the court could create a test and police those partisan gerrymanders,” said Rick Hasen, a law professor at the University of California-Irvine who also runs the popular. “The bigger question is whether there’s the will among five justices to do that.”

Does anyone else get a sick feeling in their stomachs now when they hear or see the word: Supreme?

Le Supreme Court has lost all credibility. The whole idea was that by appointing justices for life, they would be insulated from public opinion, and therefore would make unbiased rulings based on conscience. What a cosmic joke.

We know how that will go

This is what gerrymandering looks like. Carving out certain areas for district control, that's amazing. Look at the right of the outline. How do they get away with that. This is the 21st congressional district of Texas.

But the court is stacked, hard to believe in any of their rulings now!

Will they act on changes in time for 2020?

Setting up to get 🤬’ed by the Roberts court. It’s easier when you are ready to fight back.

It has to be “openly admitted” not just blatantly obvious to even be “considered”.

After five beers, the lines begin to blur for Kavanaugh and he declares it a new democratic state, then appoints himself King.

So glad Brett Kavanaugh is a Justice... oh wait the opposite of that...

Any bets on how this will turn out

If this occurs, the GOP is done.

. Now That We Have 2-BAD Trump-Justices, On The Supreme Court - It Too, Is Polluted... Trumph MUST-GO - 2020. . .

They'll decide that Republican gerrymandering is okay while Democratic gerrymandering isn't.

Good to hear.

They should be dealing with Ohio. What's with that first district? It was designed to rob the people of Cincinnati of their representation.

Did Mueller speak to plagiarist Meredith McIver, who “has heard everything, and taken good notes,” said trump? But if it turns out that Meredith is another John Barron, that’s a much bigger story – about how the press helped give us trump in ’16. g

Supreme Court to Deliberate Fate of Partisan Gerrymandering—AgainA case of North Carolina’s district lines drawn by Republicans, along with a case from Maryland where Democratic map makers have been under fire, finally could prompt the justices either to impose nationwide limits on partisan redistricting—or remove the federal courts entirely as a referee. Surely hope so. Should the UN start monitoring the North Carolina election process. They’re as bad as a North Korean sham Presidential election. NOW---WE WILL SEE--If all this fighting and political dirty tricks by the 'ReTHUGlicans' to get 'THEIR GOOD OLE BOYS' on the SC will pay off!!!
