Childhood is supposed to be a time of innocence, but there is now a fight for the souls of our children, and we are winning this battle in Texas. Parents from across Texas have grown increasingly alarmed by efforts to harm children. Sexually explicit content in school libraries, transitioning of little children, “family-friendly” sexual drag performances, sex trafficking and the unwanted exposure to online porn make it abundantly clear, children are under attack.
One of our efforts to protect children was House Bill 1181. The bill requires reasonable age-verification to be conducted by pornographic websites. The legislation had wide bipartisan support and created fines for violations. While there is no debate that pornography is harmful to children and that there is a legitimate interest in preventing minors from accessing it, a coalition of porn companies attempted to block the legislation.
I want to be crystal clear that for the adult industry to make an effort to stop Texas from protecting children from harmful and obscene materials shows how evil this industry is and it is to be condemned. Porn companies degrade and abuse women, many of whom have suffered unspeakable harm when they were children, and the adult industry’s efforts to extend their vile attack on children have been stopped in Texas.
