The aunt of a TV journalist found dead has failed in her attempt to get a judicial review after claiming Greater Manchester Police mishandled an investigation into allegations she was a victim of domestic abuse.
At a second pre-inquest review at Bolton Coroners' Court in August 2022 senior coroner for Manchester West Timothy Brennand heard how it was established that reports had been made to police into concerns over abuse before Teresa's death. The force, according to the report, by the Independent Office for Police Conduct , also failed to inform Teresa of her former partner's violent history when she requested it under Clare's Law and lost a vital bodycam footage.
A detective chief inspector from GMP's Major Incident Team carried out a review of the original investigation. He has concluded a criminal investigation is not warranted and that the original investigation was not flawed. A spokesperson for GMP said: "Our thoughts continue to be with Ms McMahon’s family. Since the IOPC provided their findings in March 2023, we have acted on their direction to reinvestigate the handling of complaints prior to Teresa’s death.
