In what was a response to the regression of federal abortion rights in the US last year, France became the first country last week to inscribe the guaranteed right to abortion into its Constitution. Though abortions have been legal in France since 1975, this constitutional amendment means the right to pregnancy termination is protected under basic law and from political reversals.
