The Alaska House on Monday advanced a bill that looks to replace Alaska’s legal term for “child pornography” with “child sexual abuse material.”

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -

Vance told lawmakers another reason for the change is that “child pornography” carries misleading connotations, suggesting a consensual sexual act even though children cannot provide legal consent. However, Rep. David Eastman, R-Wasilla, felt taking the term “child pornography’” out of state statute and replacing it with “child sexual abuse material” could create confusion for parents and law enforcement.
