The family of six were on board a boat when the father and his daughter went overboard. The daughter was rescued, but the father's body was found later. Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

A man found dead two days after he and his daughter were thrown overboard from a boat has been identified as Queensland State of Origin coach Billy Slater’s brother-in-law. Ryan Craig, the husband of rugby league legend Slater’s older sister Sheena, died in Kinchant Dam near Mackay on Saturday. He is being remembered as beloved and devoted husband, father of four children and friend to many.

The family of six were on board a boat when the 40-year-old father and his daughter, aged nine, went overboard about 11am. She was rescued after half an hour in the water but frantic efforts to find Craig were unsuccessful. His body was found about 7am on Monday. Police are yet to determine the full circumstances behind the tragedy but “preliminary information” suggests “the actions of the man who is now deceased saved his young daughter’s life”, Inspector Glenn Cameron said on Thursday. He said the Craig family is “devastated”. Cameron said whether the pair were wearing life jackets would be part of the investigation. “We do implore people to be as safe as possible on the water,” Cameron sai
