The Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) is concerned about proposed amendments that will affect children born out of wedlock, stateless children adopted by Malaysian parents, and foundlings. Currently, foundlings are given citizenship automatically, but the amendments would require registration within one year.

Some government MPs have indicated they may vote against the amendments if they are found to be regressive
