In 2008, Austin received recommendations to help Black Austinites in six areas, including education, health care, housing and economic opportunities. But more than a decade later, Austin Justice Coalition leader Chas Moore says, not much has changed.

Chas Moore, founder of the Austin Justice Coalition, speaks to the audience during the State of Black Austin address at Stateside at the Paramount on Wednesday.

"The city has not done, at all, a good job whatsoever, at communicating the strategies and the implementation of those 56 recommendations," she said. Nelson Linder, president of the Austin NAACP, said that's because Austin has not invested in Black communities — a problem that was pointed out nearly 20 years ago.

“We’ve been working every year since then to address the disparities in this city that were highly prevalent in the Black community and still are even today,” Linder said.
